Finding the right counsellor can feel like an important decision. You may be looking for someone you can trust, feel comfortable with, and talk to openly.
My aim is to offer a calm, supportive space where you can feel heard, understood, and accepted. Just as you are.
I’m Gillian, a qualified BACP registered pluralistic counsellor and psychotherapist based in Edinburgh, Scotland. I work with adults (18 yrs +) both in person and online, who may be feeling anxious, overwhelmed, low, or unsure about where things are heading. Sometimes there's a clear reason for how you're feeling, and sometimes there isn't. Both are okay.
I have experience supporting people with a range of issues, including:
Before training as a therapist, I worked in highly pressured professional environments where I saw first hand how easy it is to keep going on the outside while struggling internally. That experience helps me understand the pressures many people face, especially when asking for support doesn't come naturally. (You can find out more about my career here).
I currently volunteer with PF Counselling Services in Edinburgh, both as a counsellor and as a Trustee. I hold a MSc in Counselling, relevant professional training and follow the ethical framework of the BACP. I continue to develop my practice through regular supervision and ongoing professional development.
Clients from diverse backgrounds are welcome. My practice is trauma informed, LGBTQ+ inclusive, and values transparency and choice.
My approach to counselling is collaborative, flexible and shaped around you. I don't believe there's a single right way to do therapy, instead, we'll work together to find what feels most helpful.
By exploring and working together, we can:
You can expect:
You don't need to prepare anything or have the right words, just coming as you are is enough.
It is completely normal to feel unsure about starting counselling. If you're not certain whether it's right for you, we can begin with a free 20 minute conversation to see how it feels. There is no obligation to continue.
Therapy doesn't have to be intimidating, it can simply be a place to start making sense of things.
